Fantastic Perils:
The Amazing Art of Ron Wilber
I first became aware of Ron Wilber's art in the pages of Space & Time, a wonderful zine that publishes prose sf, fantasy, and horror stories. The book was filled with terrific illustrators, but Wilber's art was always something special to look forward to. Occasionally I'd catch wind of his work in other zines like James Van Hise's RBCC. Over the years I lost track of his career, so I was delighted to run across this collection of his work published by Ron Hanna's Wild Cat Press.
The collection includes many pulp fiction characters reprinted from Wilber's work for issues of Howard Hopkins' Golden Perils pulpzine. Included are full page drawings of The Spider, The Shadow, Captain Future, The Avenger, Doc Savage, The Domino Lady, Secret Agent X, and others. While working for Hopkins, Wilber also began a Gorgeous Pulp Pinup series featuring scantily-clan or nearly naked women of the pulps like Joan Randall, Betty Dale, Nita Van Sloan, Merry White, Rosabel Newton, etc.
There's also a great selection of previously unpublished work from the artist's secret vaults. It's a great collection of Wilber's talent that includes work from 1986 up to 2007. I jumped at the chance to get this the second I realized it existed.

Fantastic Perils is 74 b&w pages, plus color covers. 8.5 x 11, perfect bound, with machine trim. It's available for $13.34 from Wild Cat Books.
